Only a few hours after audio of Tom Cruise’s rant against “Mission Impossible 7” crew members that weren’t socially distancing leaked, fellow veteran actor George Clooney has now tapped in with his own take on the situation as a whole.
With countless outlets already covering and weighing in on what went down with Cruise on-set, his award-winning peer sat down for an impromptu interview with Howard Stern to share his thoughts on what Cruise did in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic as a whole.
Clooney’s Take
During his remote interview with Stern, Clooney said that he agreed with Cruise’s reaction and highlighted the seriousness of COVID-19 and how the problem the “Top Gun” star reacted harshly over is a constant in many current productions.
“He didn’t overreact because it is a problem,” he said to the radio host about the ordeal. “I have a friend who’s an AD on another TV show who just had the almost exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response.”
How He Would’ve Handled It
Although Clooney agreed that Cruise was right to address the situation, he argued that he would have gone about handling it a bit differently than his peer did.
“I wouldn’t have done it that big. I wouldn’t have, you know, pulled people out,” he said of his differentiation in thought from Cruise.
“You’re in a position of power and it’s tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he’s absolutely right about that. And, you know, if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible. It’s just not my style to, you know, to take everybody to task that way.”
This Is Just One Side Of The Story
The actor went on to mention that although the audio paints a very damning image, there could very well be more to the story than what the public is aware of right now.
“I think it doesn’t help necessarily to point to specific people in that way and do it that…but, you know, everybody has their own style. The people who were on that shoot will tell us more about it,” he said to Stern about how others may approach a similar altercation.
‘He’s Not Wrong’
“I understand why he did it. He’s not wrong at all about that. You know, I just, I don’t know that I would have done it quite that personally, but I don’t know all the circumstances so maybe he had it 10 or 15 times before,” Clooney concluded by saying.
The leaked audio of Cruise painted the star in a light that many haven’t seen him in before. In the somewhat grainy audio, the “Tropic Thunder” star can be overheard saying “That’s what I sleep with every night. The future of this f***ing industry! If I see it again,” he warned two disobedient crew members, “you’re f***ing gone.”
