Jamie spoke to CNN ahead of an important hearing in Britney’s conservatorship this week. During the chat, Britney’s dad revealed he hasn’t been in contact with the singer for months. He told the outlet he was in touch with Britney up until August of this year. Jamie said they were on “good terms” until her court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham moved to remove him as co-conservator.
Jamie blames Britney’s attorney for her disconnecting from him. He said, “I love my daughter and I miss her very much. When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally. I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family.”
Jamie’s attorney added, “Jamie’s relationship with Britney is not that different than your average father-daughter relationship insofar as there has always been a mutual love and respect for each other. Until Britney’s court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham abruptly instructed Jamie not to contact Britney a few months ago, Jamie and Britney had spoken often and regularly throughout the entire conservatorship. In fact, they had spoken just the day before and had had a pleasant and collaborative conversation.”
The whole interview feels like a last-ditch effort to salvage his reputation after Britney asked the court to remove her father and strip him of his powers.
During the sit-down, Jamie also tore into Britney’s mother for her supporting the singer in court. At the last hearing in November, Lynne’s attorney told the court she believed Jamie should be removed from the conservatorship.
Lynne said Britney’s relationship with her father was toxic. She said her daughter should not be forced to obey his unreasonable demands. Lynne’s lawyer said in court, “It has broken Lynne’s heart that things have come to this point.” She said it’s time “to start fresh” and remove him as a conservator.
Jamie responded to Lynne’s courtroom comments in the CNN interview. His lawyer said, “Jamie strongly disagrees with Lynne’s false statements and highly misleading statements and characterizations.”
It appears things are a bit icy between Jamie and Lynne at the moment too. As The Blast previously reported, Britney is still moving forward with her fight to remove Jamie from her life. She was shut down in her first attempt to have him axed but the judge said she still can argue the point at the upcoming hearing.
