Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s Review Of ‘Don’t Look Up’ Scores Over 100K Likes!

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson finally saw “Don’t Look Up.”

The Adam McKay Netflix comedy has been creating a buzz with its poignant commentary on climate change and the polarized state of the world we live in. Featuring a star-studded cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, and many more, the film has a divisive 55% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score stands at 77%.

Science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson finally checked out the fictional tale, and couldn’t help but take to social media to share his thoughts.

On Wednesday, Tyson admitted that he “finally” got around to watching the film, which has been trending on and off over the past few days.

“Finally saw the Netflix film ‘Don’t Look Up,’ a fictional tale of a Nation distracted by pop-culture and divided on whether to heed dire warnings of scientists,” he wrote.

“Everything I know about news-cycles, talks shows, social media, & politics tells me the film was instead a Documentary,” he joked.

His review got over 134K engagements on Facebook, over 13K shares, and almost 10 thousand comments as fans added their own reviews of the film!

Fans seemed just as divided as critics as to whether or not the film was a success or a snooze-fest.

“Watching it now,” one fan wrote. “It is pure genius. Kinda makes you ask some serious questions about the current state of affairs.”

“You are absolutely right!” another wrote. “It’s a documentary.” The comment gained over 500 likes.

“Those who need to absorb this, won’t get it sadly,” said another.

“It wasn’t really was it,” another fan noted. “The first thing any astronomer would do as would be the case with any scientist in a similar situation would is pass the information on to other people in that sphere for verification.”

“The acting was great as you would expect with that cast but it just wasn’t funny and I just couldn’t get my head around the totally implausible scenario,” they added. “sorry Adam, love most of your stuff!”

“Started watching it about an hour ago: can confirm,” another fan wrote. “As an ICU Nurse I feel much like Jennifer Lawrence’s character these last years.”

“Neil, you've been talking about this issue for a while,” another noted. “The issue of our country moving away from science. I thought this film was a good social and political commentary on how far we've moved away from science, logic, and reason.”

“Most of the movie critiques I’ve read say this was about climate change and that it missed its mark at comedy,” another shared. “I totally disagree. This flick was a satire about our culture and was right on the money!”

Others couldn’t help but compare it to modern day events, with one fan commenting, “I mean when hundreds of thousands of people die from a virus and people still claim it’s a hoax… the notion of people not believing scientists and astronomers seems pretty plausible (regardless of the validity of the scenario) .. we live in a strange world right now.”
