Britney Spears gave everyone an early holiday present and made everyone’s 90s dreams a reality by teaming up with Backstreet Boys for a long-awaited collaboration! The Princess of Pop took to Instagram Thursday evening and broke the big news, along with Backstreet Boys, who couldn’t be more excited for the collab.
39-year-old Britney announced the song, “Matches” and wrote to fans about how excited she is for it alongside a re-release of her sexy “Glory” album art:
“Matches” ? featuring my friends @BackstreetBoys is out now !!!! I’m so excited to hear what you think about our song together.”
Britney Spears also thanked fans for the loyalty over the years for “Glory,” and for supporting the 2020 re-release, “Glory (Deluxe).”
“The love you guys have shown this album this year has been stupid amazing ?????? …. like I can’t even believe it !!! I hope it brings you joy. GOD BLESS YOU ALL ??? !!!!!”
Backstreet Boys were equally stoked about finally teaming up with Britney after all these years.
“What a GLORIOUS day it is… we’ve been asked about the possibility of a collab like this for the past 20 years and today is the day!!” the Backstreet IG stated.
The initial reactions to Britney and Backstreet’s “Matches” was overwhelmingly positive on her Instagram page, with fans flocking to praise their queen for the new drop.
“We love your masterpiece, Britney!!!! You and this perfect album deserve all the love in the world!” one fan wrote on Britney’s Instagram page.
“This song with bsb is the best of 2020,” a second fan wrote.
“This is gonna give the year end planet earth deserves!” one fan proclaimed on Backstreet’s IG page.
“Glory (Deluxe)” is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon.
It’s unclear when the unreleased song was recorded, but it’s interesting that “Matches” is going live now considering the ongoing fight Britney has been having with her father and the conservatorship.
As we reported, Britney Spears has previously requested that her father, Jamie Spears, be removed as the conservator watching over her life and financial moves, and even threatened to never perform again if he were to be left in place. Maybe Britney is testing the waters to eventually returning to the stage … and sending a message to her conservatorship.
