Ghislaine Maxwell Found Guilty On Five Out Of Six Criminal Charges

British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell was just found guilty of sex trafficking in connection with the Jeff Epstein scandal.

Jurors deliberated for five days on the long trial, which eventually found her guilty out of five out of six counts. Maxwell was found guilty of sex trafficking and four other criminal charges against her. She was acquitted of one count of enticing a minor to travel across state lines to engage in an illegal sexual act.

Maxwell, 60, was charged with luring girls to be sexually abused by Jeffery Epstein. The month-long trial featured testimonies from victims who were as young as fourteen years old. They described being abused by Epstein in the 1990s and 200s in Epstein’s various properties in New York, Florida, and New Mexico.

Maxwell was yet to be sentenced for the crime, although she reportedly faces a maximum of 60 years behind bars. Epstein, 66, is believed to have taken his own life in a Manhattan Jail cell in 2019 while awaiting his own sex trafficking trial.

One of the key moments in the trial was the testimony of several Maxwell accusers. One of the accusers who took the stand went by the pseudonym “Jane” and said that she was only 14 years old when she started to become abused by Epstein on a regular basis.

The woman stated that Maxwell was actually present in the room while the abuse occurred. She described in graphic detail the sexual acts that Epstein did to her. She said that she only met Maxwell later when she participated in another graphic sexual encounter with Epstein.

Even though “Jane” pointed directly at Maxwell when identifying her as the woman who sexually assaulted her, Maxwell gave no reaction during the testimony.

At another point in the trial, the prosecution presented the jury with one of Epstein’s massage tables which was taken from a raid on his Palm Beach home in 2005. It was claimed that Epstein abused dozens of underage girls on that table.

Another accuser, who went by the name of Kate, claims she was only 17 years old when she was introduced to Maxwell by a boyfriend on a trip to Paris. She said that she was asked to fill in as Epstein’s massage therapist when his regular therapist failed to show. At the time, she said that during the encounter, Epstein initiated sexual contact with her.

According to the testimony, Maxwell approached her after the encounter, saying, “How did it go? Did you have fun? You’re such a good girl.” She said that Maxwell later asked her to find women to perform sexual acts for Epstein, who needed to have sex “three times a day.”

Maxwell, again, gave no reaction during the victim’s testimony. But, because Kate was over the legal age of consent, Judge Alison Nathan told the jury that she could not be considered a victim of the crimes, and said that the jury could not convict Maxwell based on Kate’s evidence. The jury was only allowed to use her testimony for things that were deemed “relevant to the issues before you.”

Sentencing in this case will be decided at a later date.
