American singer Erika Jayne recently announced divorce from her 21-year-old marriage to attorney Thomas Girardi. When fans found out her plans to end her marriage, they were not only sad, but wondered why the couple would choose to end their more than two decades relationship.
Following their shocking split, the now-former couple received multiple accusations of alleged hoodwinked victims. These reports accused the duo of faking a divorce as a means of expediting suspected embezzlement.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the families who tragically lost loved ones in October 2018, Lion Air Flight 610 crash by Edleson PC law firm.
Lives Lost At Sea
The lawsuit accused Girardi of embezzling the settlement money set for his clients, the widows, and orphans who lost their loved ones in the devastating crash.
The attorney and estranged wife were accused of using the settlement money meant for the plane crash victims’ loved ones to fund their lavish lifestyles and the rest to pay loans to keep Girardi’s law firm going.
This crash, which took place on October 29, 2018, claimed the lives of 198 passengers. According to reports, Boeing 737 MAX crashed into the Java Sea, killing all on board.
Thomas Girardi Reportedly Used Settlement Money To Pay Loans
People reported that the money should have long been directed at Girardi’s clients; instead, he kept it to continue to fund he and his wife, Jayne’s lavish Beverly Hills lifestyle.
The documents in the filed lawsuit claimed that Girardi’s law firm is on “the verge of a financial collapse and locked in a downward spiral of mounting debts and dwindling funds.”
Also, Girardi was accused in the lawsuit of faking a divorce with Jayne in a desperate and fraudulent attempt to protect and hide his assets from paying what he owes.
21 Years Later
The “RHOBH” star Jayne announced on November 3 that she had filed for divorce from Girardi after 21 years of marriage.
In a statement to ET, the singer revealed the decision was made after much deliberation.
She continued that she had great love and respect for Girardi for the life they built together, and she asked that their privacy be respected as they go through their divorce.
Although fans wanted an in-depth reason for the divorce, the 49-year-old cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her divorce file.
How Did They Meet?
Jayne also requested the court to be awarded spousal support and ask that the same spousal support privilege be denied to Girardi. Also, she requested that Girardi be responsible for all her incurred attorneys’ fees.
The duo met in a Hollywood hotspot where Jayne was waitressing. After dating for six months, the 49-year-old media personality tied the knot with 81-year-old Girardi in 2000 with no prenuptial agreement put in place.
Before her marriage to Girardi, Jayne was previously married to Thomas Zizzo, with whom she shares her 26-year-old son, Tommy.
