Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin is bending over, deep-squatting, and lifting some major pounds while flaunting one heck of a ripped body on her Instagram. The 31-year-old five-time Olympic medalist geared up for the weekend with a super-energetic Friday workout, and she didn’t pick any old music. Nastia, followed by 1 million and recently making headlines for being Santa’s little helper in drainpipe jeans, was working out to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Check out the video below.
Scroll for the video. Nastia, just yesterday writing: “22 days till christmas but even more importantly 28 days till 2021,” was clearly in the festive spirit, choosing both red for her skimpy spandex look and what’s basically the most famous Christmas song of all time.
The video, which followed a paid partnership post with Bright Fitness App, showed the Russian-born star slide-training, squatting, and burning some major calories with a kettlebell while in red leggings and a clingy matching crop top, plus sneakers.
Nastia, who tagged Bright Fitness App, explained what was going on in her permanent post, telling fans:
“Finishing out the week strong with a workout via @brightfitnessapp with my favorite trainer of all time—my bestie and birthday girl @aliciasacramonequinn! We might be training to compete against each other, but we are training HARD.”
The gymnast, who retired aged just 22 back in 2012, is currently gearing up for a charity-centric and friendly fitness fight-off with fellow gymnast Alicia Sacramone Quinn. Scroll for more photos.
Nastia might have the beam behind her, but the 2008 all-around Olympic champion has been big-time revisiting her past. Her newly-launched YouTube channel recently featured a full day’s training, with Nastia seen doing crunches from bars, back-flipping on a trampoline, and recreating some of her most flexible moments.
Turns out, retiring at 22 is tough. “I felt so lost for a good year. I gained probably 10 to 20 pounds, because when you stop doing something and just go cold turkey your body doesn’t even know what to do,” Nastia told The Cut in 2016.
Nastia, who is a giant Pilates and boxing lover, added: “I finally feel like I’ve found my rhythm again. It takes time to figure out what your body needs and what’s best for you both in nutrition and also fitness.”
It isn’t all easy-going on Nastia’s social media, though. In October, she made giant headlines for a massive anorexia clap-back, with November bringing round two as fans accused her of only fueling up with coffee in the mornings. Once again, Nastia defended herself.
