“Real Housewives of Orange County” star Braunwyn Windham-Burke is finally telling all about a key part of her existence that she has struggled to come to terms with for many years, being a lesbian woman.
In a revealing new interview with GLAAD on Wednesday, December 2nd, Windham-Burke candidly shared the news that she has become more comfortable telling the world at large that she identifies as a lesbian, a move that, as she claims, has “taken me 42 years to say.”
Her Explanation
“I’m finally comfortable enough to say: I like women. I’m gay. I’m a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m a lesbian,” the high-profile reality star said very proudly during the unprecedented interview with the LGBTQ+ first organization, addinng, “And it has taken me 42 years to say that, but I’m so proud of where I am right now and I’m so happy where I am. To be able to be comfortable in my own skin after so long is just so nice.”
‘I Knew I Was Attracted To Women’
The 43-year-old furthered her point by telling viewers that there is still a learning curve for her, that she is “still getting used to it,” even though she is wholeheartedly sure of her decision, adding “I knew I was attracted to women.”
Windham-Burke explained that due to being married at a young age, having a family, getting caught up in life, and never allowing her true thoughts about sexuality to fully manifest, she effectively shut that side out of her for quite some time.
Coming To Terms With It
“I always have been,” she said of her sexuality. “I got married very young and I never thought about it. So to be 42…I’m just now starting to feel like I’m becoming the woman I was supposed to be. So for me to be living completely authentically and say, ‘I’m a lesbian. That was who I have always been.’ This isn’t something that is new…No, I’ve always known it. But it took me personally 42 years to be comfortable enough in my own skin to say that.”
As For Her Family
Windham-Burke is currently married to Sean Burke, whom she has seven children with: Hazel, 2, Koa, 4, Caden, 7, Curran, 7, Jacob, 15, Rowan, 18, and Bella, 20. Despite the fact that she is currently dating a woman, the reality star says she has no plans to divorce her husband.
“I love Sean. I love him dearly, he is my person, he is my family, but I’m not attracted to men and I never have been,” she explained, adding, “You know, Sean and I are still married. I plan on staying married. We are not sleeping in the same bedroom right now, but we are in the same house. We are raising our kids together, he’s my best friend. He knows the girl I’m dating.”
