According to People, sources close to the couple say Brandon is currently playing hardball in court. The move is interesting given sources originally claimed the split was amicable.
A source told People, “Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees. Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month.”
They added, “Additionally, he’s already asked for $2M for attorney fees when he’s the one driving up the cost of the divorce with seven attorneys just representing him alone.”
As The Blast previously reported, Kelly scored a huge victory this week in court. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge awarded Kelly primary custody of their two children. 6-year-old River and 4-year-old Remy,
Brandon was trying to get joint custody of their kids and wanted to live in Montana. Kelly argued California was the kid’s home and opposed Brandon’s request. The judge agreed with Kelly and awarded her primary custody.
A source close to Kelly said she was “pleased” by the custody decision in court. She says her main priority is to protect her children.
Another source close to the singer claims, “As Kelly has said, her first priority in all of this is to take care of the kids and all the hearts that are involved in this divorce. It’s been a hard time for everyone, but Kelly’s pleased with the court’s ruling regarding custody.”
They added. “Divorce is hard and it gets tense for most couples going through it. But Kelly’s primary focus is on doing the best she can to protect the kids, In this case, she had to fight for them since Brandon and his attorneys were making unreasonable requests.”
Earlier this year, Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon on June 4. In her petition, she listed the date of marriage as of October 20, 2013, but said the date of separation was “To Be Determined.”
Kelly originally was asking for joint legal and physical custody of their two kids. In her petition, Kelly asked the court to deny any request for spousal support. She asked the court to enforce their prenuptial agreement which was signed before their marriage.
It appears Brandon sees things otherwise.
Starstruck is run by Kelly’s estranged husband’s father, which makes it even more interesting. The management company says they signed Kelly in 2007. Over the last 13 years, they say they helped launch Kelly into superstardom.
Starstuck says Kelly decided to stop paying them money owed this year. They are seeking in excess of $1.4 million.
