This week “The Young and the Restless” held an extravagant wedding for one of Genoa City’s youngest couples.
Viewers tuned to watch the wedding of Abby Newman and her boyfriend Chance Chancellor.
However, there was a slight change to the scenes because the role of Chance had to be recast.
Actor Donny Boaz was missing in action from the wedding scenes due to testing positive for Covid-19.
With Boaz unable to film, the show decided to continue on with the storyline with another actor filling the role.
Melissa Ordway’s Husband Fills In
The show didn’t have to look far to find a replacement for Chance.
Actress Melissa Ordway’s husband Justin Gaston filled in for the role as Abby’s fiancé.
The 32-year-old Gaston and 37-year-old Ordway have been married since 2012 and have two daughters.
Like his wife, Gaston is also an actor, whose previous credits include playing the role of Ben Weston on the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives.”
With many soap operas using the real-life partners of actors to film love scenes, it’s no surprise they cast Gaston as Chance.
Abby And Chance’s Love Story
The characters of Abby and Chance come from Y&R’s most prominent families.
Abby is the daughter of Victor Newman and Ashley Abbott. Chance is the son of Nina Webster and Phillip Chancellor.
Abby and Chance had little interaction in previous years, but when he returned to Genoa City in 2019, he and Abby pursued a romance.
Throughout the years Abby has had bad luck in the romance department. She’s been divorced, and even though she’s dated other men, none of her relationships have lasted long.
As Abby and Chance’s relationship grew, they started talking about marriage and having kids.
Following a near fatal shooting, Abby and Chance decide to marry. However, Abby’s fears get the best of and could derail her wedding.
Reaction To Recast
Gaston made his debut as Chance earlier this week as the character prepared for his upcoming wedding to Abby.
Although recasts tend to have a difficult time winning over the audience, Gaston seems to have made a good impression with Y&R viewers.
Fans have praised Gaston’s acting and the chemistry he has with his real-life wife in their scenes together.
Boaz’s version of Chance has been hit or miss since his debut, and the actor’s political beliefs is a turn off for most of the fans.
How Long Will Gaston Stay?
Although fans wish Gaston will stick around on Y&R, his run on the show will be coming to an end.
Boaz was in quarantine following his Covid-19 diagnosis, and has since recovered. In an Instagram post, Boaz revealed he’s returned to work and his new episodes will be airing soon.
Fans are Boaz are happy to see the actor’s on the mend, and he’s going to be returning as Chance.
With Abby and Chance’s wedding approaching, there’s sure to be drama as the newlyweds embark on married life.
