The 24-year-old gold medalist took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon, only days after she returned to social media following a few months off while taking some time for herself. McKayla Maroney showed off a radiantly glowing photo while posing inside her new kitchen and revealing to fans she moved back home to Orange County, CA to be close to her family following the tragic death of her father.

"Hi guys. If you start noticing the new background it’s because I moved into a new place," Maroney wrote in a message on social media.

She added, "After my dad passed away, I wanted to be home for a bit for my little sister, mom, and brother."

Stressed Out

The retired gymnastics star is also admitting that things can be stressful at times and being close to family is helping her focus on what's important.

"I have so much good in my life, but I’ve been pretty stressed out lately. In times of chaos I think it’s a really good opportunity to practice how you react. Choosing peace, silencing your mind, and letting go of what you can’t control, and being realistic, and honest about what you can control," she wrote.

Staying Productive

McKayla Maroney, who recently announced a career in music, explained that staying focused and productive is the key to making it through the dark times in her life.

"Being productive with my thoughts and emotions is super important to me, and I’m trying my best right now. 😂 If nothing in life is ever going to be perfect might as well get comfortable with the imperfections now."

Maroney ended her message to her 1.3 million fans with, "Thinking of you guys, and sending love."

The loss of McKayla Maroney's father was revealed back in 2019 when the star explained he passed away due to complications with opioid abuse.

"Love u dad. I can’t believe it’s real. I don’t want to. I’ll miss you forever. Rest in peace. You were the most incredible dad,” she wrote on social media in an emotional tribute.

The death also came on the heels of Maroney going through a public emotional ordeal when she, along with many former gymnastics teammates, revealed they were sexually abused by former Team USA doctor Larry Nassar.

Maroney was one of the many young women who read impact statements in court and detailed the horrific abuse they endured at the hands of Nassar, who was ultimately sentenced to spend the rest of his miserable life in prison.
