According to multiple reports, Lil Wayne was hit with federal weapon charges and could face years in prison if convicted. The U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida has charged the rapper with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. The new charges stem from an old incident where Lil’ Wayne’s private jet was searched after landing in Florida on its way to California. At the time, Wayne was cleared of any gun or drug charges and allowed to leave the scene.
Lil Wayne’s attorney confirmed the rapper was charged with possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage back in December. Adding, “There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person.”
He continued, “The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.”
