Nobel Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu passed away on Sunday, December 26.

He was 90 years old and passed away in Capetown, South Africa.

Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his non-violent opposition to apartheid in South Africa

Desmond Tutu had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the late 1990s.

He had been hospitalized several times over the years due to complications from cancer treatments.

However, his cause of death was not disclosed.

President Cyril Ramaphosa called him “a patriot without equal.”

Barack Obama tweeted, “Archbishop Desmond Tutu was a mentor, a friend, and a moral compass for me and so many others.”

Boris Johnson said he “will be remembered for his spiritual leadership and irrepressible good humour.”
