On December 19, Drakeo The Ruler was taken from his family when he was stabbed backstage while performing at the Once Upon A Time festival in Los Angeles.
Snoop Dogg, who was headlining the event, posted his own tribute while saying that he was "praying for peace in hip hop."
"My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Drakeo the Ruler," he wrote. "I’m not with anything negative and as one of the many performers, I was there to spread positive vibes only to my city of LA."
The mother of the late L.A. rapper, Darrylene Corniel, said that she plans on filing a lawsuit to hold event organizers accountable, arguing that their security was nowhere to be found after they let a large group of people backstage.
Corniel Conducts Her Own Investigation Into Son's Death
Corniel alleges that Drakeo the Ruler and his brother, Ralfy The Plug, went backstage with a small group of people. They were reportedly confronted by a group of “like 40 to 60 people.”
She says this group “swamped” her son, adding, “Everything just happened so quickly. They started trying to jump them.”
“He was hit in his neck,” she reported. “I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t able to hug him or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window.”
“I need this to be out there,” she continued. “I need people to know. And I do want justice for my son.”
“And I do believe that justice will be served,” she added. “I will not rest until justice is served.”
