After she adamantly spoke out regarding body shaming in the context of how people handled recently shared images of Billie Eilish, actress Kat Dennings is vouching for her own personal relation to issues similar to what Eilish faced.
When a select group of people decided to body shame the “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” singer following some slightly revealing images being shared, Dennings was one of a few celebrities to slam those talking badly about Eilish, and now she’s defending her stance further.
“As someone who looked exactly like that at her age, it’d be nice for this unhealthy nonsense to f**k right off,” Dennings tweeted at the time in response to the harrowing claims against Eilish, “She’s beautiful and normal goodbye!”
In the interview, the actress said that the actions perpetrated by those who talked badly about Eilish is “gross” and she disdains it.
“Feels So Inappropriate”
Diving into her inherent issues with the situation, Dennings commented that “Any woman in the spotlight is already under a tremendous amount of pressure and the internet is gross and awful and I hate it. I don’t know if it’s because she’s so young and it just feels so inappropriate for anyone to comment on any young person’s body. People forget themselves because the internet is this wall they can hide behind.”
Beyond that, she added that she is a big fan of Eilish’s work, although maintaining that fact alone isn’t the total justification behind her support.
Referencing Her Body Image
“I felt personally affronted by it because she’s a beautifully young girl who is making unbelievable, earth-changing art,” the 34-year-old continued to explain. “I mentioned in my tweet that I looked exactly like that when I was her age and I had a horrible time. Things have improved as far as body image for girls and boys and everybody — things are more inclusive now. But when I was growing up it was not like that. I hope people know that people are in their corner and that [body-shaming] is not okay.”
Overcoming It All
Although Dennings admittedly dealt with some harsh comments while she was undergoing her own physical transformations, she still managed to overcome all of her critics and their criticisms to establish herself as a bona fide star.
In her recently released film “Friendsgiving,” she portrays a woman who ends up on the other side of the country from her family and just wants to enjoy the holiday with her best friend. She details the experience as just her “moping about her breakup and just eat a bunch of snacks and go to sleep early.”
