Package deliveries have hit an all-time high during the Christmas season and UPS, FedEx, and Amazon delivery workers are a common sight during the holidays.
That’s why one elderly couple did not hesitate to open the door to a UPS worker who was there to deliver a package. What they didn’t know was that the UPS worker was an imposter and was hiding a gun concealed by a parcel he was carrying as part of a ruse to commit armed robbery.
The fake UPS worker forced himself inside the elderly couple’s Bronx apartment and forced the couple to bind themselves – and their young grandchildren – with zip ties as he and an accomplice ransacked the place.
Along with values such as two iPhones, an iPod, personal documents, and $7,500 dollars in cash, they also took the children’s piggy bank.

The burglary happened in Billingsley Terrace around 5 PM on Monday afternoon. According to police, the 60-year-old grandmother opened her festively decorated front door for a man wearing what she thought was a UPS hat. After she opened the door, he pushed himself inside and pulled out a silver revolver from the package that he was holding.
Once he was inside, the fake UPS worker was joined by his accomplice, who had her and her 63-year-old husband tie the grandchildren – ages 6 and 8 – up with zip ties. They ransacked their home, grabbing whatever valuables they could find before rushing off with the children’s piggy bank.
Fortunately, none of the victims was hurt, although the children were left scared and “physically shaking.” No suspects have been arrested in this case, but police are asking for anyone with information to please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
Public Outrage Grows After Surveillance Footage Surfaces

Police have released surveillance footage of the attack in the hopes of someone being able to identify the armed robbers.
“Never open the door!” one person wrote. “Not even for UPS! People getting bold! Leave the package at the door. Better yet, get a P.O. box. If you have Amazon, have it delivered to a nearby Amazon locker. I do both! Nothing comes to my door period! Stay safe Fam!”
Many others pointed out that the hat was obviously a fake due to the way they look as if they were simply taped on. “That hat was a no off rip!!!” one person wrote.
Although some people joked about the obvious fake, some people couldn’t help but come to the couple’s defense.
“I see many of you STILL don’t read,” one person wrote. “An elderly couple? They didn’t know any better. This is sick.”
“The way y’all are laughing just imagine it was y’all grandmas who y’all love so much,” another wrote next to a facepalm emoji.
“Exactly!” another added. “Elderly or not, this could happen to anyone. These are sad times we are living in. Truly sad and scary.”
