Mindy Kaling is being sued for causing ‘grave bodily injury’ to the passenger of a vehicle, who claims the actress if at fault, for a violent car accident in Los Angeles.
According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, the ‘The Mindy Project’ star is being accused of running a stop sign and colliding into the vehicle of a woman. The alleged victim claims Kaling’s ‘reckless conduct’ caused severe damage to the woman’s car and that she has suffered “grave bodily injury.”
The accident, which took place on an L.A. street, was widely reported on at the time after the actress revealed she totaled her car on the way to an interview.

According to the documents, On January 7, 2019, the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian struck another car while traveling on Highland street in Los Angeles, California.
The person suing claims “Kaling ran a stop sign and collided into the vehicle (the woman) was in.” She continued, Mindy “negligently entrusted, managed, maintained, drove and operated their vehicle including, but certainly not limited to, the use of (her) cellphone at or about the time of this accident.”
The woman claims the reckless behavior caused the “vehicles to collide causing the described injuries” and the actresses “reckless conduct” caused her vehicle to be “severely damaged.”

According to the lawsuit, the alleged victim claims Mindy violated statues, laws, and regulations including…”regulations relating to the safe operation of a vehicle, maintaining control of a vehicle, traveling at a safe speed for the conditions, keeping a proper look-out, and other traffic safety rules and regulations”.
The woman suing the actress says she sustained injuries to the body and “shock and injury to the nervous system.” The woman says she continues to suffer from “great physical, mental, and nervous pain.”
Kaling is being sued for a minimum of $25,000 in damages for medical and health care expenses caused by the accident.

At the time of the incident, Kailing revealed she is fortunate enough to have walked away from the incident without serious injuries. But, says it was tough having to stand on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck while fans began swarming her.
The actress revealed in an interview with Variety, it was a moment she wished she wasn’t, “everyone’s best friend.” She pointed out that the “looky-loos came up and asked to take a photo,” It was very frustrating.
‘The Mindy Project’ star has had a very busy year after she revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that she gave birth to her second child, son Spencer. Kaling also told the talk show host, Spencer’s godfather is her BFF, B.J. Novak.
Kaling has yet to respond to the lawsuit.
