Before 2021, A-listers Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani were in a loving relationship that had lasted for almost half a decade. This summer, they finally exchanged vows in a lavish wedding that had only their families and close friends from the entertainment industry in attendance.

Surprisingly, their fellow coach on "The Voice," Adam Levine, was nowhere to be found at the ceremony. It turned out that his name was not only omitted from the guest list – the couple also had no plans of inviting him to grace their celebration.

The bizarre act made fans wonder why The Maroon 5 lead singer did not show up despite the trio bonding well on the famed reality singing show before he left in 2019.

Taking a throwback to Levine's statement weeks before the wedding, the answer seems to lie within.

Shelton Revealed The Reason For The Omission

A few weeks before the wedding, Levine came on an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and made some quotes that appeared to cost him his invitation. In an interview on the same show after the marriage, Shelton confirmed fans' hunch, making it clear that the vocalist's comments were the reason for omitting him from the guest list.

"That's the reason we did not invite him to the wedding," he revealed to the show's audience. Ellen DeGeneres, the host, then quizzed Shelton if he and Stefani may have had a change of heart, assuming Levine never uttered those words.

Shelton decided to play coy with his reply, telling DeGeneres and the crowd with a smug smile, "We'll never know."

He spiced up the joke with a further reveal, "I purposely did not invite Adam Levine to my wedding — and I think it's funny." Levine could have crashed the wedding if he so desired. However, he took the absence of the invite as a clear message that there was no need to attend the celebration.

Levine's Strange Comment

Fans can recall when Levine appeared on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" as one of the many guests who have graced the platform over the years.

Looking like his usual dapper self, the singer chatted with DeGeneres about several things - including lots of tidbits about his personal life and new music. At a point, the conversation switched to Shelton and Stefani's wedding that happened a few weeks after the interview.

DeGeneres then quizzed Levine if he would sing at the wedding. Many expected his answer to be affirmative, given that they had shared a relationship as judges from "The Voice." However, the vocalist shocked her with his reply. "I don't support their marriage," he said. He based his objection on a quirky premise, "she's so cool, and he's not."

Levine Had Plans To Attend The Nuptials

In a way, Stefani might have inspired Levine's comments. She had previously appeared on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and confided that she and her partner had no plans to have a wedding singer spice up their celebration.

She asserted that they were tilting towards using a playlist. "I feel like we're just [going to] go with a playlist," she told Meyers. "We're keeping it very simple — really simple."

Although Levine's words carried some weight, they did not contain any animosity towards his former colleagues. It ended up looking like a joke as the award-winning singer later described Shelton with a jocular compliment and that he missed teasing him from their time on the show.

He followed it up by confiding that he had plans to crash the wedding even if he got no invite because of his comments.

Shelton And Blake Had A Low-Key Wedding

Levine was not the only one who did not get an invite. Other industry bigwigs, who were friends of the couple, were notably absent. As intended by the lovebirds, they kept the nuptials simple and small.

The wedding was held on July 3, 2021, at Shelton's ranch in Oklahoma and mostly had family members and a few friends in attendance. The attendees allegedly numbered 40 people, including Stefani's parents and her sons from her previous marriage to musician Gavin Rossdale.

Also present was Carson Daly, host of "The Voice," who officiated the intimate nuptials. The ceremony was a satisfying climax to the couple's long-term relationship, which started on the singing reality show.

Like Stefani, Shelton had faced divorce before, and fans hope their new love will last their lifetime.
