Everyone loves to sing along to Britney Spears‘s songs. One substitute teacher even got fired when he brought a karaoke machine to school to sing her hit single “Toxic” in class!
However, one talented singer was too afraid to sing a Britney Spears song in public!
That singer is none other than “The Masked Singer” season 6 runner-up, Todrick Hall. Fans might be wondering why he was so terrified to sing Britney Spears, especially when he did an iconic cover of her hit song “Circus” on the show… while dressed as a giant bull, no less!
Todrick Hall Was Terrified To Sing Britney Spears On ‘American Idol’
Back when Hall was competing on “American Idol” in 2010, he told Page Six that was “so nervous about what America would think of me” if he sang a Britney song.
“I was going to be dancing and ‘American Idol’ wasn’t the stage for me to do like a big, over-the-top performance,” he admitted, adding, “I always regretted it.”
However, when he finally got the chance to perform on “TMS,” Hall revealed that he knew he wanted to sing “Circus.”
“When they showed me the blue costume and it was red and had that, you know, like the Big Matador vibe to it – it also reminded me of a ringleader, so I knew that I wanted to sing that song,” he explained. “That confirmed it for me.”
Todrick Hall Supported Britney, Glad She’s Free Of Her Restrictive Conservatorship
Many celebrities spoke out in public support of Britney during the #FreeBritney movement and celebrated right along with her after she was freed of her 13-year conservatorship earlier this year.
Hall was one of those celebrities, saying, “It makes my heart bleed to think that somebody who’s an adult has had their voice and their ability to make decisions taken away from them.”
“And so I wanted to do a shout out to her because Britney Spears is the person that we know of,” he continued. “We don’t know that there could be other people in plain sight that are going through the same thing, so I just wanted to do my part to have something to say about the movement.”
Hall would absolutely love to collaborate with Britney one day, although he admitted that he would be happy just to “watch her perform in a show that she wanted to do.”
“I think that we’ve never actually seen the real Britney Spears and what she’s capable of and what she’s passionate about,” he continued. “I’m really excited to see what that next chapter looks like – whether it’s music – as long as it makes her happy, then as a fan I’m here for it.”
Hall Has BIG Plans For 2022
Earlier this month, Hall released six new tracks on his “Femuline Reloaded” album. He is also planning on a world tour from March through May. Although “The Masked Singer” winner, Jewel, has released an EP featuring her greatest “Masked Singer,” hits, it doesn’t seem that Hall has any plans to do so at this time.
But that’s not to say that he doesn’t have big plans! Hall teased, “My team and I are hard at work like Santa’s elves right now to make sure that 2022 is an incredible year for anybody who has been a fan and supported me and all the new fans and supporters from ‘Masked Singer.’”
