Britney Spears Scores Victory In Conservatorship, Allowed To Hire Lawyer

By Ryan Naumann

Britney Spears scored a huge victory in her battle in court as she fights to remove her father Jamie Spears from the conservatorship.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has granted a motion allowing Britney to hire her own litigation counsel. The singer had been asking the judge to allow her to hire a law firm named Loeb & Loeb.

Previously, Britney's representative told the court she wanted Jamie to have less control of her finances and conservatorship.

Her father objected to the request and claimed Britney may be unable to mentally make her own decisions. Despite his opposition, the court granted Britney's request and will allow her to hire her own counsel.

The order stated, "The Court finds that sufficient evidence has been provided to grant the matter on calendar this date based upon reading the moving papers and consideration of all presented evidence. The Court overrules the objections."

The petition was filed by Britney's court-representative Samuel D. Ingram.

Ahead of the hearing, supporters of the #FreeBritney movement protested outside the Los Angeles Superior Court. The supporters believe Britney should be freed from her 12-year-old conservatorship. Many accuse her team of having ulterior motives and wanting to profit off of Britney.

Jamie has called the movement a "conspiracy theory" and said the fans have no idea what they are talking about. He defended the conservatorship saying the court knew what was best for Britney not her fans. Britney fired back at his statements in court documents.

The singer showed support for the #FreeBritney movement saying she appreciates her fans despite what others say about them.

“We hope that the judge rules in Britney’s favor,” said #FreeBritney supporter Kevin Wu, “and takes steps toward removing her dad so that Britney can live life on her own terms”.

Another said, "BREAKING: Judge Penny has APPROVED Britney’s request for new lawyers according to fans who were in the court room. This is a HUGE victory for the #FreeBritney movement who have decried the violation of her Constitutional rights."

Recently, Jamie asked the court to reinstate attorney Andrew Wallet as co-conservator of Britney’s estate. The singer is also attempting to shut down that request.

Andrew spoke to Daily Mail about Britney's conservatorship. He said he believes the singer will be under it for the rest of her life. He told the outlet he believes the #FreeBritney supporters “don’t have a clue” about how the law works. He says they don’t understand what Britney needs and how they protect her from “undue influence.”
