Over the years, Matthew McConaughey has solidified himself as a bona-fide Hollywood veteran, with numerous accolades and awards of various types under his belt. However, he claims that his biggest accomplishment and biggest pride in life doesn't come from his work on the silver screen, but from his work as a father to three children.

In a new interview with People, the actor candidly explained why fatherhood was always his "dream" and exactly how his role has shifted and even grown since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quarantine Effects

The actor said that the time his family has spent in quarantine since March has largely played a role in how they interact, and even in how his children learn.

"They have doubled down on their hobbies, creative things and parts of themselves I don’t think they would have leaned into if they were back in school," he led off the candid discussion about his family life by saying, then adding, "One of the assets of this COVID quarantine is they’ve been forced to be more self-reliant. They’ve been forced to create their way out of their boredom."

The Kids Are Into Photography Now

Amongst those mind-expanding hobbies his children have been taking up while stuck at home is photography, with the actor commends them greatly for.

"They’re into it — all three [of the kids]. They’re becoming a production crew. It’s very cool, [and] they’re starting to get kind of good at it," he told the publication of his children's efforts expanding into the visual medium, something he and his wife, Camila, have been adamantly looking to bolster in any way they physically can.

Fatherhood Is A 'Privilege'

Through all the craziness of raising three young ones, McConaughey maintains  that his take on parenthood is highly steeped in "privilege" for having the role of being their father and "responsibility" to exact on the role in the best, most supportive way for his kid's well-being.

"The only thing I ever knew I wanted to be was a father," he added, "And it’s remained the pinnacle for me. Being a dad was always my only dream. ... I can’t think of anything being more important."

On what the future looks like for his kids and his relationship to them as a father, McConaughey says, "My hope is that our kids are conscientious and confident and autonomous. ... All three are very, very caring and kind individuals."

"I can tell you this: I’m happy and confident to say our kids do not question the love we have in our family," he concluded by sharing some insight into the immense level of emotional output from him and his wife towards their children.
