Britney Spears' Laywer Likens Singer's Mental Capacity To Comatose Patient

Britney Spears' lawyer has likened his client's mental capacity to that of a "comatose patient" as the 38-year-old's legal battles rage on. The princess of pop, who has been under conservatorship since 2008, is now back in the news as lawyer Sam Ingham made the comparison on Wednesday – a hearing two days ago formed the latest stage of developments as Spears fights 68-year-old dad Jamie Spears' grip.

Ingham explained why the "Circus" singer was unable to provide a sworn declaration in the case. Check out the latest below.

Troubled Singer Fights Dad Controlling Her Finances

Britney is curretly requesting that a co-conservator join 29-year-old sister Jamie Lynn Spears in an arrangement to shift away from dad Jamie who controls his daughter's finances and many other aspects of her life.

Per TMZ, Ingham explained that Britney isn't in a coma – obvious from her continued and regular Instagram activity – but that she lacks the mental capacity to make her declaration, then likening the capacity to that of a "comatose patient." Keep scrolling for Britney's IG activity.

Reports Conservatorship Could Be For 'Life'

Britney has had her life controlled for over 11 years, with 2020 seeing her conservatorship extended through February 2021. The singer's downward 2000s spiral and bipolar diagnosis are behind the removal of her financial freedom, with this year also seeing the #FreeBritney movement experience a massive resurgence as fans fight to see the singer freed.

The recent hearing comes after reports that Britney's conservatorship could be for the "rest of her life," with former estate manager Andrew Wallet saying that the conservatorship exists for a "good reason" and in the singer's "best interests."

Dad Calls #FreeBritney A 'Joke' And A 'Conspiracy Theory'

In August, alongside the news that Britney spent $1 million of her own money on legal fees last year, dad Jamie wound up making headlines for slamming the #FreeBritney movement, calling it both a "joke" and a "conspiracy theory." He also denied profiting off the current setup, saying:

“It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business," also adding:

"I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something?”

Britney 'Vehemently' Opposed To Father's Control

Britney, recently in the news for thanking fans for their support and dropping a little Instagram vs. Reality as she admitted she couldn't fix a light, has been fighting her dad every which way.

“Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret,” the singer's lawyer stated.

Britney has personally requested that her caregiver, Jodi Montgomery, be her temporary conservator, something that has yet to come to fruition.
