It appears as though Prince Harry truly felt the short end of the stick during his last Royal outing as an official member of the family.
Per “Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult” by Robert Lacey, Harry was seemingly fighting back “tears” due to the overt snub his family perpetrated of him and Meghan Markle during the event, and now Royal fans have some more clear elaboration on what allegedly went down on the fateful day.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were slated to join the Royal roster directly after the aforementioned. However, per The Daily Mail, things didn’t necessarily go according to plan when 2,000 orders of service were distributed to those in attendance that blatantly left Harry and Meghan off the roster, a noticeable snub.
The publication also reported at the time that Harry and Meghan were “quite sensitive and emotional about it [being snubbed]” and that in an act of grace, William and Kate “stepped in to defuse the situation” and offer to sit with the couple that had been snubbed instead of walking in with the Queen as the plan dictated.
Despite the couple’s hopes to defuse the situation, Lacey’s description shows a clearly caused divide and established thought in Harry’s head that he stands lower in his family in terms of importance.
“The only problem was that 2,000 orders of service had already been distributed round the Abbey, explaining that William and Kate would enter and process with the main royal party—and making no mention at all of Harry and Meghan. So there was the snub in black and white—set out for all to see. Observers also noted that Harry’s face was ‘quite tense and unsmiling’—and that when William sat down close to him, he barely greeted his brother,” the writer told Newsweek.
Lacey continued by saying that, “Throughout the service, Meghan megawatted away with her best TV smile but, as the ceremony progressed, Harry appeared to grow gloomier. According to one observer, ‘his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears.'”
This and a bevy of other insider tidbits released through Lacey’s book paints a clear picture of the moments leading up to Harry’s decision to abandon his Royal role in 2020, opting for a quiet life in America with Markle and their son, Archie.
