“The Masked Singer” kicked off its fourth season on Wednesday night and it’s safe to say that it got everyone thinking extra hard.
The panelists — Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy — all returned for the new season along with the host, Nick Cannon.
The hit show on Fox introduced viewers to five new contestants and costumes for its first episode back and one in particular that stood out was the Sun.
It’s safe to say, they definitely shined bright.
For their debut performance, the Sun performed Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You.”
From the acapella intro, it was clear that they were a female with some singing experience. As the performance went on, Sun impressed the panel with their range and stage presence. They just knew this person does this for a living.
Throughout their first clue package, many references were made. Sun explained that they fell into a deep depression after they felt the pressure of stardom, stating they felt “frozen.”
A gold card member was shown as well as a jaguar in another frame. Sun was shown standing on top of the world with trees, which morphed into what looked like a Mickey Mouse head, implying they could be a Disney star.
The Guessing Game!
The guesses for Sun have been all over the place.
Scherzinger’s first instinct was to go for Idina Menzel or Kristen Bell due to the Frozen reference. However, the Pussycat Doll went with actress Katherine McPhee because she knows she can sing and thought the gold member clue could be a link to her husband, David Foster.
McCarthy believed the Mickey Mouse shown was a way of hinting that it could be a former Disney star who has overcome a tough period in their life. She guessed Demi Lovato and seemed pretty confident with her choice.
As always, Jeong went for a wild guess and said Madonna because she has well-known singles titled “Frozen” and “Ray of Light.”
On social media, Lovato and Christina Aguilera have been very popular guesses among fans of the show. However, all the clues seem to add up to another established songstress…
It’s A Country Star
While Aguilera and Lovato aren’t bad guesses at all. It appears that all the clues add up to the country singing sensation LeAnn Rimes.
According to GoodHouseKeeping, the gold member card could be associated with the fact that Rimes has many gold-selling albums. The “Can’t Fight The Moonlight” chart-topper has been open about her battle with depression and has written a book called “Jag.” The Mickey Mouse clue link to Rimes’ Disney Channel TV special in 1997 as well as a performance she did at Disneyland for their 50th anniversary. As for the “frozen” reference, it is most-likely a connection to the film “Northern Lights” she starred in. The visual showing Sun on top of the world also relates to one of Rimes’ studio album titles, Sittin’ on Top of the World.
Fans On Social Media Agree
It seems that fans of the show have been doing their research too and believe Rimes is underneath the mask.
“It’s LeAnn Rimes. She has battled with depression since her early fame. Frozen reference is the Northern Lights movie she was in. I think the gold member reference was about her first song Blue becoming certified gold,” one user wrote.
“That’s 100% LeAnn Rimes. Holy smokes that was an amazing performance,” another said.
“It’s LeAnn. The Mickey Mouse shape was because she recorded a song called “Remember When” for Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary in 2005,” remarked a third account.
