Nastia Liukin was destined to be an Olympic champion because she was literally created by two of the greatest in their sport. Along with Valeri Liukin's storied gymnastics career for the Soviet Union in the 80s, Nastia's mother was very famous. Anna Kotchneva was a world champion in rhythmic gymnastics and was especially skilled in juggling clubs.

Both parents were extremely supportive of Nastia throughout her gymnastics career and were by her side when she won gold in the 2008 Beijing games.

Valeri Liukin also admitted that his daughter "fixed" the mistake of a Liukin missing out on the all-around gold medal after he lost it at the Seoul Olympic games. Nastia has spoken about her father being a very "tough coach," but told ABC News back in 2008 that after she "hops off the beam" he's just a regular dad.

"To share that Olympic gold with him made all the difference in the world to me," she told ABC News.

Nastia added, "For him to be able to be here with me, he's the one who'd gotten me to this point. Without him I know I wouldn't have accomplished what I have."
