Ben Affleck has really put his foot in his mouth with the recent remarks he made about his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.
Earlier this week, the ‘Batman’ actor paid a visit to Howard Stern’s SiriusXM Radio show.
During the hours-long interview, Affleck’s addiction and failed marriage became a topic of conversation.
The actor basically said that had he not gotten divorced, he wouldn’t have gotten sober.
Ben Affleck would still be drinking if he was married to Jennifer Garner
“We probably would’ve ended up at each other’s throats. I probably still would’ve been drinking,” he told Stern.
Affleck said he felt ‘trapped’ in the marriage to the actress.
“Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped,” he admitted.
HARSH!
“I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution,” Affleck revealed.
He went to rehab in 2018 for alcohol addiction, which was the same year he and Garner called their marriage quits.
He felt 'trapped' in his marriage to Jennifer
The former couple have three children together, and were married from 2005 to 2018.
Garner seemed unfazed by the blatant shade Affleck threw her way.
And here’s the kicker, he and his ex-wife have a great co-parenting relationship, so it was quite shocking to hear him speak so negatively of her and their marriage.
Now, Garner’s friends are ready for war.
Page Sixexclusively learned the actress’ close group of friends are absolutely disgusted by Affleck’s remarks.
“It’s disgusting,” one industry insider who knows both Affleck and Garner well said of the actor’s comments. “Jen has been the only one picking him up time and time again when he’s done horrible things — fallen off the wagon or worse.”
Jennifer's friends come to her defense
The insider added, “Jen stood by him because she loves him. This is the mother of his children.”
Affleck is reportedly pissed his words are causing so much backlash.
His feelings are “hurt,” and he feels his confessional is being used to sabotage him.
Affleck reportedly feels the interview is being used to make him look like the “worst, most insensitive, stupid, awful guy.”
The actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show on Wednesday, December 15 and explained his reaction to the negative publicity.
Ben's feelings are hurt
“I start seeing all this stuff come up on Twitter. And I was like, what is this?” he said. “It said that I had blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism, that I was trapped in this marriage — just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid, awful guy.
He said none of it was true, and in fact, what he said was the opposite.
“I don’t believe that — it’s the exact opposite of who I am, what I believe, and I would never want my kids to ever say a bad word about their mom,” he said of his words about Garner.
