Halle Berry was demanding attention when she threw on a pair of tiny shorts, and when she got that attention she used it to speak out about the killing of Breonna Taylor and demand justice against the police officers responsible for her death. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the “Bruised” star revealed herself to be in some sort of tropical paradise while reminding fans about Breonna Taylor, and while some responded in support, many lashed out at the actress over the charged situation.
Standing on stone steps and surrounded by lush vegetation, Halle Berry wore a shirt emblazoned with the words, “Arrest The Cops Who Killed Breonna Taylor.”
The “Swordfish” star showed off the back of the shirt too, which bared a picture of Breonna’s face and the words, “Say Her Name.”
“It has been 6 months since first-responder #BreonnaTaylor was murdered in her home, asleep in her bed. She still deserves justice – we have not forgotten, and we will not forget. Let’s keep speaking out…until our voices are heard!” Berry captioned her photos.
While many voiced support for Berry’s message, others took aim at the star and lashed out in anger over her support of Breonna Taylor.
“You [mean] drug dealer Breonna Taylor? You need to look further into that case. She wasn’t innocent, she wasn’t asleep, they weren’t at the wrong house. So many lies by the media. Brandon Tatum’s website or YouTube channel could help you out A LOT,” one person commented.
“All this BLM nonsense needs to stop!! Once they started rioting, looting and burning this cause lost all legitimacy,” another critic wrote.
Others accused Berry of contributing towards hate against police officers.
“Enough ! Stop contributing to the police hate,” one person pleaded.
“Arrest the person in Compton who blatantly shot the officers,” a second person wrote, referring to the two L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputies who were hospitalized over the weekend after being ambushed by a shooter while sitting in their vehicle.
The deputies, a man and a woman, were in critical condition but after life-saving surgery, expected to survive. The gunman still remains at large, but security footage has been released.
Although Halle Berry is getting heat from the public, it was a big weekend for the actress as her upcoming passion project, “Bruised,” is reportedly closing a deal for Netflix worth $20 million.
Deadline reports the deal is the first big one to happen during the virtual Toronto International Film Festival. The movie is Halle Berry’s directorial debut and tells the story of a female MMA fighter rising the ranks and overcoming adversity, a la Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” franchise.
After the deal was reported, Berry took to social media to thank Netflix for believing in her film.
