Why Was DrDisrespect Banned?
As major mysteries go, “Why was Dr. DisRespect banned?” doesn’t feel like it has the cosmic significance of UFOs or figuring out who shot J.R. (old guy TV show reference), but it still has been a matter that has been perplexing gamers much of this already crazy summer.
4 Million + Subscribers
Sure, the gaming personality with 4 million-plus subscribers has been disciplined before, including after he admitted cheating on his wife with another gamer. But this the first time he’s been permanently banned from Twitch and his Discord server. Adding to the mystery is that no one from either platform publicly has admitted why, other than a general claim of “violations of terms and conditions and community guidelines.”
His wife, who goes by the handle Mrs. Assassin, didn’t shine any light on matters either, although she did send a message of support and encouragement to members of the Champions Club and other fans while describing all the difficulties her hubby is going through.
Neither has Herchel “Guy” Beahm IV, the actual human behind the DisRespect persona. Two weeks after the ban, he Tweeted to world that that he now has a YouTube channel, but really doesn’t want to address why he was banned. He also suggested that even President Donald Trump received specific details of his TOS violations when his Twitch and Twitter accounts were suspended but he never was.
He alluded to possibly suing Twitch, and encouraged fans to “let the legal professionals just do what they need to do.”
Plenty Of Theories
Of course, no one likes waiting for things to resolve themselves, so there has been plenty of online discourse theorizing about what happened and why.
There’s certainly plenty of opinions and conjecture to be found on the “/r This MIGHT be Why Dr Disrespect was BANNED from Twitch”
page, but as with any Reddit discussion, many comments are light on proof and heavy on potentially libelous accusations. Some refer to DisRespect’s past statements about mental health problems or gaming industry trends where companies are starting to better enforce anti-harassment guidelines, not that this particular case definitely involves either.
Some of the speculation, though, may have some validity, such as recent changes in branding at Twitch which could have led to new approaches to enforcement or policies; or perhaps there was a possible unknown breach to a contract signed between DisRespect with Twitch in March.
Gaming fans are still baffled by the quick and quiet removal of Dr. DisRespect from Twitch and his Discord server.
Online gaming fans are still confused by the quick response banning personality Dr. DisRespect from Twitch and his Discord server. Although people have followed with their own theories, no one has said anything officially.
