The literary world was shocked today to learn that beloved author Anne Rice, widely known for her fiction “Interview With The Vampire” has passed away. Her son, Christopher shared the news with her fans via Facebook. Since then, fellow authors, celebs, and heartbroken fans have shared their sadness on social media.
Anne Rice Passed Away From Complications Of A Stroke
The author was 80 and had recently suffered from a stroke. While that news remained private, she, unfortunately, passed away due to complications of the stroke. Christopher shared that the “immensity of the family’s grief cannot be overstated.”
He described his mother as his biggest supporter and shared some of the valuable lessons she taught him during her time on this earth. “She taught me to embrace my dreams, reject conformity, and challenge the dark the dark voices of fear and self-doubt.”
Rice unwittingly did the same for her fans, some of which have turned into fellow writers and are grieving the loss of the author as well. Many of them jumped on social media to share what the poignant author meant to them!
Jeffree Star, George Takei & Others Pat Tribute To Anne Rice
“I’m devastated to wake up and read this.. Anne Rice helped me fall in love with reading at such a young age… Rest In Peace,” he wrote. Actress Viola Davis shared a lovely photo of the author alongside a simple, “RIP Anne Rice” with the red heart emoji.

Famous celebs were not the only ones missing the inspiring author today. Fellow authors shared their love for Rice and how she influenced their work. TV writer Mike Drucker shared a hilarious fun fact about his love for Rice’s work. “RIP Anne Rice, the only author whose work I loved so much and took so seriously that I got banned from an unofficial fan group as a kid.”

Meg Elison pointed out that Rice was an erotica author at heart. “RIP also to A.N. Roquelaure, the pen name Anne Rice dressed in to deliver some of the fanciest erotica ever put to page. She was a talent and a tempest, and she sure introduced a lot of folks to pony play.”
Anne Rice Was More Than ‘Interview With The Vampire’
Rice has published almost 40 novels. At least 4 of them were under her pen name, A.N. Roquelaure. She also had other pen names as a device to help her break into other genres. Rice and her son Christopher even co-wrote a novel together “Ramses The Damned: The Passion Of Cleopatra”.
