Earlier today, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos shared a happy snap of him smiling with the Blue Origin crew. He captioned the photo, “Happy crew this morning in the training center…”

The problem? Last night, at least 24 tornadoes ripped through six states and caused at least a hundred fatalities. At least two people were reported dead at an Amazon warehouse northeast of St. Louis, Illinois. At the time he posted the photo, rescue crews were still working to try to save workers who were trapped beneath the rubble.

Many fans accused Bezos of being “tone deaf” when people had just lost their lives in the devastating storm.

“You should worry about the tornado situation more,” one wrote.

“How tone-deaf is @jeffbezos to post something like this when people have died in one of his warehouses?” another asked. “Shameful.”

“You think he heard about the warehouse collapse in Southern Illinois last night?” asked another. “This is a wild post after that happened LAST NIGHT LOL.”

“There’s nothing to ‘LOL’ about,” another added. “People are dead, missing, and traumatized. I would hope he gets alerts, but maybe not.”

However, this is not the only time Bezos has been accused of being tone-deaf.

Bezos Accused Of Being Tone-Deaf After Eleven-Minute Space Flight

In July 2021, Bezos was slammed on social media for blasting off on a rocket designed by Blue Origin. During a press conference after the landing, he thanked “every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer,” saying, “you guys paid for all this.”

Senator Elizabeth Warren took to Twitter to criticize Bezos, writing, “Forgot to thank all the hardworking Americans who actually paid taxes to keep this country running while he and Amazon paid nothing.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez added, “Yes, Amazon workers did pay for this – with lower wages, union-busting, a frenzied and inhumane workplace, and delivery drivers not having health insurance during a pandemic.”

Bezos did not provide any statements in response to the criticism.

Bezos Refuses To Admit That He’s Part Of The Problem

In November 2021, the Daily Beast couldn’t help but point out the irony that Jeff Bezos lamented the thinning atmosphere that he was helping to destroy with his space rockets.

Scientists are worried about the effects the thinning atmosphere can have on the planet – effects made all the more severe by the increasing space tourism industry.

At the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Bezos said that “Looking back at Earth from up there, the atmosphere seems so thin. The world so finite and so fragile.” Although the world’s second wealthiest man has pledged to donate $10 billion dollars to his Earth Fund to help address climate change, he still traveled to the summit on a private jet.

Environmentalist Greta Thunberg, who arrived by train, had some harsh words for Bezos.

“Change is not going to come from inside there—that is not leadership. This is leadership,” Thunberg was quoted saying outside the meeting. “We say no more blah blah blah, no more exploitation of people and nature and the planet. No more exploitation. No more blah blah blah. No more whatever the f--- they are doing inside there.”

According to Thunberg’s group, the helicopter that took Bezos from his superyacht in Turkey to his private jet generated 215 pounds of CO2 emissions alone.

Bezos did not comment on carbon emission concerns, and, at least at the time of this writing, he still has not produced any statement about the lives lost in the Amazon warehouse in Illinois.

UPDATE: Bezos issued a response over Twitter late Saturday night. You can read his response here.
