Dove Cameron Sparks Weight Concerns With Bikini Road Trip

By Rebecca Cukier

Dove Cameron has sparked major weight concerns after bikini-clad road trip photos landed on her Instagram this weekend. The 24-year-old "Descendants" actress, followed by 37.3 million on her Instagram, uploaded a phot-heavy batch of images on Sunday as she took her car for a spin – and got mega-scrutinized as a result.

Dove, who bravely opened up about recovering from anorexia nervosa back in 2018, now sees her fans telling her to "eat" – although many were quick to dub the comments "skinny shaming." Check out the storm below.

Dove was definitely the focal point. The third image showed the blonde beauty carefree, smiling, and behind the wheel while rocking a string bikini top and tan overalls, plus a lowered face mask.

Weight Comments Come In

Keep scrolling for the car snap. Dove, who admitted to having "such a bad case of anorexia" back in the day, quickly found the weight-related comments racking up. Some were erring on trolling, others merely expressed concern.

"Geez she's soo skinny ngl it looks great on the on hand but fricking unhealthy on the other," a fan wrote, with over 200 others agreeing.

Approaching 200 likes was a reply telling the star to better nourish herself: "Dove u look so skinny go eat some food," the user wrote.

She Claps Right Back

Dove has not ignored the comments. The star, who saw her followers mention eating disorders in the comments, swooped in. Responding to the user who told her to "eat some food," Dove wrote:

"Outta here with that energy."

As to the "Geeze, she's soo skinny" remark, that one, too, got a reply. Dove defended herself, writing: "I am not unhealthy thank you."

The response since has been immense. Many fans felt the "skinny" comments to be body-shaming, out of place, and nobody's business.

"Being "too fat" or "too skinny" is not necessarily being unhealthy," one fan stated.

Opening Up On Her Own Anorexia Battles

In 2018, Dove spoke to Style Caster about her eating disorder battles. The former Disney star stated:

"I've never said this before, but I had such a bad case of anorexia. I was so badly down that hole."

"I was not eating for days sometimes. But it was because I thought I needed to be absolutely tiny to be loved. I genuinely thought I needed to be as skinny as I possibly could to be loved and appreciated and good enough," she added, also confirming that she was now in a healthier place and recovered.

Dove joins celebrities including Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and Paula Abdul in going public with their eating disorder battles.
