"The Handmaid's Tale" Star Addresses The Series' Controversy
The final episode of the last season of "The Handmaid's Tale" was very controversial. The Blast shared Strahovski's explanation of the surprising events.
The final episode showed June Waterford [Elisabeth Moss] revealing the crimes, including physical assault, committed against her by Serena Waterford [Strahovski] and her husband Commander Fred Waterford [Joseph Fiennes].
In a self-serving statement from Fred, he defended rape as pivotal for raising the birth rates. He called his wife's pregnancy a blessing from God for doing his bidding.
The Waterfords expected to meet a crowd of angry protesters when exiting the courthouse but were greeted by cheering supporters who were on board with Gilead's fanatical approach.
Strahovski said in an interview that while reading the script, she was shocked to find out there was a fan club for Gilead but swiftly realized it mirrored real life.
The "Chuck" actress clarified that "we've seen all the kind of extremist behavior out there; there's a fan club for it. And it's confronting, honestly."
Strahovski also buttressed that Gilead touches a universal audience because it is a mindset, not a place, so one cannot escape it by simply moving cities.
"The Tomorrow War" Star Talks Movie Release And Essence
Strahovski starred in "The Tomorrow War," a sci-fi epic that was unable to be released in theatres by Paramount and Skydance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios bought the movie at a whopping $200 million deal and released it on July 2.
The 39-year-old expressed that she was unbothered by the fact that the movie did not hit the big screens because "it might actually have more eyeballs on it because people can watch it at home."
Strahovski noted that people who have been in isolation are aching for an old-school super action about people joining and fighting for a common goal.
