Netflix is taking a big step in its quest for world domination! The streaming giant is now not just content with pushing to be the most-watched streaming service. They are also heading to the editorial business. Netflix announced the launch of a site called Tudum. Which, is being branded as the one-stop-shop for all of the Netflix news that you're ever going to need. The site is getting set to feature all sorts of behind-the-scenes bonuses. Also, fans are going to be able to access news right from the horse's mouth on which series and movies are going to be coming to the streaming service next. Is this really a spot to find unbiased news?
Netflix Is Going All-In In This New Editorial Endeavor
For months now Netflix has been plucking talent from different news sites to try and build up their own platform. Numerous former top editors of different online publications are jumping to Netflix. We're seeing the same phenomenon that we've seen for years now with top actors getting great deals with the streaming service. In this case the problem might be that not everyone can be the main editor. They've got at least three people on board that used to be chief editors at their previous workplace. Michelle Lee, Allure’s former top editor, and Bitch Media’s editor-in-chief Evette Dionne are both leaving their jobs to work for the streaming giant.
Not Their First Rodeo In The Blogging Business
It's not like Netflix didn't have an editorial side in their corporate umbrella. For the most part, though, the company ran a couple of small blogs to this point. In fact, an argument can be made that their previous efforts into the publishing business have not been as widely publicized. Particularly for a company as big as Netflix. One of the more well-known parts of Netflix's publishing efforts revolves around what used to be their core business. You can still get Netflix the old-fashioned way through DVD.com. Which is a service that allows you to pick different movies to have the DVDs delivered to your home. They run a magazine and blog around that particular service. Where you can find reviews on the movies that the company has available for you to rent from them at the time.
A Personal Experience On The Site
Netflix is not going to pass up this opportunity to incorporate their famous algorithm technology into this new feature. Users are going to be able to log into their Netflix accounts on the Tudum site. In doing so, they'll be presented with curated content that matches the preferences that they've shown through their viewing habits in their Netflix account.
In general, this seems like a decent initiative to be able to get clear information on which Netflix original series is going to get renewed. They release that information anyway through other channels. Could you really trust Netflix to provide unbiased reviews? That seems hard to believe. If you're one of those people who are convinced that Netflix has a plan to take over the world this is certainly more proof!
