AMC Theatres have been shut down since mid-March when the COVID-19 pandemic first started. Since then, their doors have been close and faced delays in reopening in July and at the start of August. This came due to increase in cases of the virus in many states. People have since been able to attend local theatres as they've been anxious to get back to see movies. Now, we will finally see the return of AMC this month with a different way of operating.

AMC will return on August 20 and in a throwback move, tickets will be sold for only 15 cents. According to CBS News, AMC Entertainment says that 100 of their locations will be reopened August 20 which is 1/6 of their total locations in the United States. AMC has labeled this as "Movies in 2020 at 1920 Prices." The films set to be premiered for this 15-cent price will be classics such as "Ghostbusters," "Black Panther," "Back to the Future" and "Grease." After these promotions, older films will start at $5.

New films will also return at the end of August.

Many also wonder when we will finally get releases of new films that were delayed as a result of COVID-19. "New Mutants" will arrive in theatres on August 28. The highly anticipated "TENET" will arrive on September 3 after initially going for July and August releases. Warner Bros will be releasing Tenet in Canada a week earlier. "Unhinged" and "Personal History of David Copperfield" will also be having late August releases. "Mulan" ended up going to Disney+ for $29.99 on September 4.

2/3 of AMC Theatres are planning to return for the release of "TENET."

AMC added that 2/3 of their theatres should be reopened in time for TENET's release. Some states such as California and New York won't be able to do this though due to them still not wanting to reopen their theatres. For the ones that are fortunately able to, the theatres will be taking cautions to protect their guests such as cleaning the auditoriums, implementing social distancing rules and requiring everyone to wear face coverings. These are what will make moviegoers much more comfortable.

With everything still not normal yet in the United States, it's great to see places like movie theatres make their return. It's been a long five months and people have missed going to see these films to end the week. Regal Cinemas will be back on August 21. Studio Movie Grill started their phased reopenings in states such as Texas and Georgia in July, which is another large chain known for their dining services sent to customers' seats during the films.
