Jessica Simpson has sparked concern over a “drowning” risk as a pool photo of herself and 8-year-old daughter Maxwell sees Instagram users worried. The 40-year-old singer and actress updated her account earlier this week with a stunning water snap from the $11.5 million property she’s quarantining in – while zero complaints came in over the stunning mom-and-daughter photo or Jessica’s stunning bikini body, fans are now expressing concern over Maxwell.
Jessica’s daughter appeared in an eye-catching, mermaid-style, and fishtail bikini. Not everyone seemed convinced it was safe.
Scroll for the photo. It checked boxes for just about everything thanks to being sun-drenched, pool-set, and seeing the “Dukes of Hazzard” star flaunting the 100 pounds she’s dropped in a string bikini.
The snap showed Jessica smiling from behind shades as she held Maxwell in the pool. The “Open Book” author’s daughter was technically bikini-clad, but with that giant and scales-covered fishtail, she was inching her way towards mermaid territory, something that Jessica’s caption reflected. Simpson had written:”Me and Maximaid #MAXIDREW.”
With over 300,000 likes left and a celebrity like from country face Miranda Lambert, the post was definitely a hit. It’s caused a small storm amid Jessica’s 5.4 million followers, though. Kicking it off was a fan writing:
“Super cute but please be careful with them tails…”
A user replied: “A friend’s daughter almost drowned because of that mermaid tail. Don’t leave your child unattended please!!”
Also appearing concerned was a fan writing: “Agreed‼️ they are a drowning risk,” with comments outside of this discussion also echoing the thought.
The fears are unsubstantiated. In July of this year, a New Jersey dad warned of fishtail swimsuits after his 5-year-old daughter nearly drowned wearing one. Adam Linsberg reported the “scary story” on Twitter as daughter Ruby was left unattended in the swimwear and found not breathing.
“Very cool, a fan told Jessica, adding: “Just make sure you supervise her when she wears it. Some kids have drowned wearing those tails.” 2018 has also seen The Daily Mail report that drowning risk increases 70% with fishtail swimwear.
Jessica’s fans, who largely thew her the mega thumbs-up for her photo, didn’t seem prepared to see her parenting skills questioned, though. Particularly, since Maxwell very much seemed supervised.
“You can’t let it be a cute picture,” one fan replied. “You can’t control what happens to anyone so no need fo the comment. She seems to be a pretty capable mother,” they added.
Jessica may be a capable mother, but she’s got herself one capable daughter. Maxwell was behind the designs for bed linens forming part of the singer’s Jessica Simpson Style clothing and homeware line.
