Donald Trump has sadly always been against social justice reform of any kind. He's always displayed bigotry of different forms though so this should come as no surprise. In 2017, he called athletes who peacefully knelt to protest racism and police brutality "sons of b*tches" as well. Since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May, more athletes are starting to take a knee as we see more leagues return from their coronavirus pandemic shutdowns that occurred in March.

In the NBA's return on July 30, they put "Black Lives Matter" on their courts in their bubble in Orlando. Players also have the option to put social justice messages on the back of their jerseys. Players and coaches have all been kneeling in solidarity during the national anthem before the games. We've seen the same kneeling occur in MLB and the NHL as well. Even with Trump's criticism, athletes have since said that they aren't worried about his opinions.

Trump continues to express his hate despite the great signs of solidarity as this morning, he took to his Twitter feed to tell how he feels again. Instead of dealing with the pandemic in America, he tweeted "People are not happy that players are not standing for our National Anthem!"

People have since responded with celebrating Barack Obama's birthday today. One user (@mmpadellan) said:

"I think people are more unhappy that 155,000 Americans have died, and the fact you care so little. But people ARE happy that today is #ObamaDay! Here's a clip of him going down stairs for you to envy."

@UK_Jilliam said "#HappyBirthdayMrPresident best wishes to the last president America had, a real man, a real president and a real father & husband. We miss you so much!"

More people expressed their disapproval of Trump's handling of COVID-19 in America as @ItsJeffTiedrich said "People are not happy that they're out of work and a pandemic is raging and grandma is on a ventilator and their unemployment benefits were just cut. only fools and buffoons obsess over some song that's played before sports."

Trump's response to COVID-19 was in fact horrible as he knew about the virus in January and didn't speak on it at all until the end of February. He also continues to have weekly golf games in the middle of the pandemic. As far as the anthem goes, he continues to completely miss the message about kneeling during it. He and his supporters still create their own narrative that athletes are "disrespecting the flag" when it's always been about addressing the bigotry in our country.
