Kelly Clarkson has been waiting for a moment like this for some time, and even though she probably didn't bank on Ellen DeGeneres' legacy going down the toilet, she could be next in line to take over the coveted daytime slot for NBC. The "Since U Been Gone" singer has seen big success as the host of her own syndicated daytime talk show with NBCUniversal, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," which network execs have long thought of as a possible replacement for Ellen.

Sources very familiar with the situation previously told The Blast, Ellen has been making it clear for some time to network and production executives that she was nearing an end on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which has been on the air since 2003. The 62-year-old star recently extended her contract through 2020, but in an interview with The New York Times back in 2018, Ellen revealed she almost didn't sign.

We're told after many appearances by Clarkson on Ellen's show, the singer became a clear favorite to jump into the daytime talk world. In 2019 the "The Voice" coach got her first shot when she interviewed Ellen after the comedian thought she'd make a great host.

Her Meteoric Rise

Kelly Clarkson's show became an instant hit with fans, which was kicked off by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appearing as her very first guest following Kevin Hart's car accident.

Clarkson's show also scored 3 Daytime Emmy wins, including Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for the singer.

Amid her success, NBCUniversal has renewed “The Kelly Clarkson Show” through the 2020-2021 season, extending Clarkson's daytime run on the hour-long show, which already airs in 100% of the United States on more than 200 stations.

Staying Humble

Another thing that Kelly Clarkson has going for her -- she's so likable! The 38-year-old star knows how to deliver just enough sass while keeping a calm demeanor and not losing her "small town" vibe, which seems to appeal to much of America. In contrast, Ellen DeGeneres' public image has become that of a tyrant who allegedly won't even look her own crew in the face during work hours.

Clarkson hasn't been the only name discussed to take over for Ellen, if and when she calls it quits, but the other name at the top of the list is apparently James Corden, which many fans have already shown great disdain for, if he were to take over the daytime show.
