For months now allegations have been coming in from various entities detailing exactly how toxic working with DeGeneres on the show was for many. Following a public apology, it appears that DeGeneres still feels as though the only way to preserve what is left of her public image is to shut the show down indefinitely and attempt damage control through other means. A source for 'The Daily Mail' explained that DeGeneres is ready to call it quits as the situation intensifies for her.

"She feels she can’t go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show," the publication's source explained about DeGeneres' current mental state. "The truth is she knew what was going on — it’s her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun — but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame," they continued to explain, saying the star realized accountability falls almost entirely on her.

"There’s really no way to save the show from this PR nightmare, so Ellen leaving may be the only way for this entire mess to go away," the source went on to explain about what is going through the star's mind. DeGeneres is carefully trying to navigate the copious amount of negative media fallout resulting from the countless harrowing claims against her character that have been levied by many respected names in the industry over the past weeks and months.

'The Hollywood Reporter' shared DeGeneres' official apology on July 30, just ahead of the rumors that she may very well cancel her namesake show outright.

"As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again," DeGeneres explained in her carefully thought out apology statement, per the publication.
