Leah McSweeney Explains How COVID-19 Has Impacted Her Debut Season Of 'RHONY'

Leah McSweeney is opening up about the way in which her life has been impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. During an interview with Nylon magazine on Wednesday, July 29, the newest member of the "Real Housewives of New York City" said that when it comes to her debut season on the Bravo reality series, things likely would have been much different for her if it weren't for COVID-19.

As fans well know, the virus led to nationwide shutdowns in March, just weeks before season 12 premiered.

According to Leah, she doesn't get noticed much, likely due to the fact that she is typically wearing a mask when out and about in New York City.

“Sometimes if I'm walking around and it's not a crowded street and I'm not wearing my mask, people will be like, ‘hey,’” Leah said. “But very rarely [do I get recognized] because I'm wearing a mask most of the time. Obviously, we were supposed to do press stuff and all that got canceled. It’s weird, but I have nothing to compare it to. I'm like, am I being protected by this pandemic in a way?”

Leah has also been unable to enlist the help of the many glam teams associated with the "Real Housewives" and recently, she was seen wearing a Married to the Mob sweatshirt while shooting her cast confessionals from home.

“People were complaining, like, ‘Oh my God. Leah's wearing a sweatshirt,’” Leah revealed. “I'm like, ‘We literally had to film.’ I mean, like I said, I could barely wake up in the morning. It was really hard to try to do that and also be dealing with your own mental issues and the pandemic and my kid and this and that. And that goes for all the women, you know?”

Speaking of the pandemic as a whole, Leah admitted to struggling with the fact that she is no longer in control of her own life.

“[COVID] is the most humbling f*cking thing,” she confessed. “We're so used to having things our way and this way, and now it's the COVID way. COVID is the one that's calling all the shots… It's been an adjustment. I was dealing with so much depression. I couldn't get off my couch. I could not. It was the stages of grief. "

"It's denial, anger, sadness, acceptance. Literally, I went through all those. Because it's kind of like your life is dead as you know it. You're mourning your life that you had. This is no joke. I have friends who have died and who have killed themselves during this time. I know about four people my age who have died from suicide… I'm just trying to make the best of it. This is life now. What else can we do?” she concluded.
