As the biggest libel trial in 21st century English law continues to unfold in the country's capital, more details are emerging that paint a detailed picture of exactly what transpired when Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were romantically involved with one another.

Depp is pursuing legal action against News Group Newspapers for a 2018 article that describes him as a "wife-beater," but new details in the case, as reported by 'Deadline' have emerged showing that his drug usage at the time makes his recollection of conduct towards Heard spotty.

Sasha Wass QC told that Depp's, "drug and alcohol-fueled lifestyle provides a backdrop to the events in question."

"Firstly, it demonstrates that the claimant was subject to irrational mood swings and abnormal behavioral patterns, which would not have been present when Mr Depp was clean and sober, and Mr Depp has a name for this metamorphosed entity, namely 'The Monster,'" she alleged of what Depp was perpetrating while being unaware of his actions, something she says that could have been avoided if he was sober.

Wass then elaborated on how his lack of recollection is in line with his druge use, and how during the time he acted in inappropriate ways towards Heard.

"The other aspect which is important in terms of substance abuse is Mr Depp’s recollection of his own disgraceful conduct, which is so severely impaired by drug misuse that he may not even have been aware of the extent of his violence and terrifying behavior which, on more than one of these pleaded incidents, put Ms Heard in fear of her life," she said.

Wass added that it is no longer acceptable to believe that because a person stays with a violent partner that they cannot possibly be a victim.

"The days are long past when the courts in this country required corroboration before accepting the unsupported testimony of a female complainant," she explained, calling the situation "trite."

"We submit… that the testimony of a complainant of domestic violence is sufficient to prove the case, provided that the complainant – Ms Heard in this case – gives credible and reliable evidence," she concluded her point in that regard.

During the trial, Depp was questioned heavily on the 14 allegations of domestic violence levied against him, all of which he vehemently denies. His noted past drug and alcohol usage were brought into question in these situations, as well as any potential issues that may have arised during his relationships with Kate Moss, Winona Ryder, and Vanessa Paradis.

Depp has spoken out against Heard, saying that she used the early momentum of the #MeToo movement to further her claims of abuse against him.
