Actor Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria Baldwin have both deleted their Twitter accounts.
If fans try to go to @AlecBaldwin on Twitter, they are greeted with a page that says “This account doesn’t exist.”
This news comes mere days after his controversial interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos about the fatal “Rust” shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Baldwin has deleted his Twitter account. Baldwin also deleted his Twitter account during the controversy over his wife’s Spanish heritage.
What Did Alec Baldwin Say In The Interview?
On Thursday, December 2, Baldwin broke his silence for the first time on what happened on the “Rust” set and appeared emotional when he was discussing Hutchins.
“She was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with [her], and liked by everyone who worked with [her], and admired,” Baldwin said. “I mean, even now… I find it hard to believe that [it happened]. It just doesn’t seem real to me.”
Baldwin also insists that he did not pull the trigger on the gun, which is something that many fans have divided reactions about.
Stephanopoulos stated, “It wasn’t in the script for the trigger to be pulled.”
“Well, the trigger wasn’t pulled,” Baldwin responded. “I didn’t pull the trigger.”
Stephanopoulos repeated, “So you never pulled the trigger?”
“No, no, no, no,” Baldwin said. “I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never.”
At another point in the interview, Stephanopoulos asks how a real bullet ended up in the gun that he was holding, when there weren’t supposed to be any live rounds on set.
“I have no idea,” Baldwin answers. “Someone put a live bullet in a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”
He added that it is “highly unlikely” that he will be criminally charged for his role in her death.
How Do Fans Feel About His Comments?
In part one of the interview that ABC released on YouTube, users on both sides of the tragedy couldn’t help but weigh in with their thoughts.
“The bad thing about being an actor is that people don’t know when you might or might not be exercising your profession,” one user commented.
“This is icky,” said another. “I feel sorry for the family and the lady who lost her life.”
“Dude has been in countless movies where he had to shoot a gun and he is trying to play it like a kid who never picked up a weapon before and this one just happened to go off in his hand like magic,” wrote another. “Give me a break.”
“Within the first two minutes he’s already saying he ASSUMED the gun was empty,” another noted. “For people who don’t have experience with guns: you never do this. You always verify!! And if you lack experience to verify, it takes 30 seconds to learn. Anyone who handles guns has the personal responsibility to know how to handle them properly.”
“I feel so much sadness for Halyna's family suffering quietly while this blame game plays out,” another wrote.
Others expressed that it was inappropriate for Baldwin to give an interview when the investigation is still ongoing.
