Reports have come in that on July 23, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi’s home was buglarized, per the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. This shocking event comes at the heels of DeGeneres coming under significant fire by countless media entities for recent bombastic claims by previous and current show employees that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ fosters a toxic working environment. Due to these claims, many have shown little to no sympathy for the media personality being victimized.
On Thursday, the Sheriff issued a statement addressing the situation as a whole, “The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the Montecitohome of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi was burglarized on July 4, 2020. The residence appears to have been targeted due to the victim’s celebrity status. The exact description of the items that were taken is not available for release, but they are described as high value jewelry and watches. Sheriff’s detectives and forensics technicians have been conducting an extensive and on-going investigation. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is in contact with other law enforcement agencies to determine if this is related to additional recent celebrity home burglaries.”
Authorities are taking part in a massive and extensive investigation to get to the bottom of the robbery, which saw DeGeneres lose an unstated amount of precious jewelry.
Per ‘TMZ’, bought her $27 million home back in 2019.
Regardless of the private community that she lives in, DeGeneres break-in was significant, yet many fans are expressing little to no sympathy for her and Rossi’s losses. Given the recent circumstances where many current and previous show employees have spoken out about the “toxic” environment the program fosters, it seems as though many are fed up with the media personality.
“I think it is a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to the show’s brand,” one former show employee commented to ‘Buzzfeed’ about the allegations.
“They pull on people’s heartstrings; they do know that’s going to get likes and what people are going to go for, which is a positive message. But that’s not always reality,” the former employee commented about how the show gives off the vibe of inclusivity and positivity, but behind the scenes operates in the opposite manner.
“Cancel the show,” wrote one user on Instagram about the burglary. “Be nicer to your staff! Racist stuff going around!” Commented another user.
DeGeneres has also been combating rumors that she and a bevy of other celebrities have been under “house arrest” due to sex trafficking charges. A source told ‘US Weekly’ that, “Ellen is at the end of her rope. She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters but it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.”
