Former CNN journalist Chris Cuomo is withdrawing from the spotlight amid new allegations.
On November 30, Cuomo was “suspended indefinitely” by CNN for aiding his older brother – former New York governor Andrew Cuomo – against the sexual misconduct allegations levied against him.
On Saturday, December 4, Cuomo was fired from CNN after an independent law firm found “additional information [that] has come to light” that was not initially known during his suspension.
It has since been revealed that Cuomo is facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations going back decades.
In 2005, Chris Cuomo allegedly grabbed the rear end of former ABC executive producer Shelley Ross during a work party. He reportedly told her, “I can do this now that you’re no longer my boss.”
More recently, in 2020, female producer Melanie Buck was replaced as executive producer of “Cuomo Prime Time” after she told CNN President Jeff Zucker that she “felt threatened” by Cuomo.
Another woman has since come forward, described only as “a former junior colleague at another network.” The woman has agreed to be interviewed only on the condition that her statements and identity remain confidential, according to her lawyer, Debra Katz.
Cuomo started working for ABC in 2006 before he joined CNN’s morning show in 2013.
CNN Quits SiriusXM Radio Show: ‘I Have To Take A Step Back’
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) December 6, 2021
In a statement posted to his Twitter account on Monday afternoon, Cuomo said, “The way my time ended at CNN was hard. While I have a thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the past week has been extraordinarily difficult. So, right now, I have to take a step back and focus on what comes next.”
“That means I will no longer be doing my SiriusXM radio show,” he continued. “I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from SiriusXM throughout my time there. I also want to express my sincere appreciation for my loyal listeners. I will miss our conversations a great deal – but I look forward to being back in touch with you all in the future.”
However, some fans were not impressed with his statement and felt that Cuomo should have held himself accountable and responded to these recent allegations.
“This isn’t an apology,” one fan stated. “There’s no remorse or reflection on why he finds himself in this circumstance. I mean it is what it is, but…”
Chris Cuomo Prepares To Sue CNN Over $6M Dollar Contract
According to the New York Post, an insider has revealed that Cuomo is prepared to sue CNN over the remainder of his $6 million dollar contract.
Sources say that Cuomo has lawyered up and plans to sue CNN if they don’t “honor the remainder of the four-year contract he signed last year.”
The insider continued to say that CNN has “no intention of paying Cuomo a penny,” and added, “If he gets a settlement, there would be an uproar.”
Another source pointed to a standard morality clause in CNN’s contract which says that an employee can be immediately terminated if they do anything of “disrepute.”
On Sunday, Cuomo’s spokesperson insisted that Zucker knew “about the details of Mr. Cuomo’s support for his brother,” adding, “There were no secrets about this, as other individuals besides Mr. Cuomo can attest.”
CNN responded by saying that Cuomo “has made a number of accusations that are patently false. This reinforces why he was terminated for violating our standards and practices, as well as his lack of candor.”
