The younger sister of Britney Spears, Jamie Lynn Spears, is speaking out about the stigma of mental health and advising those poking fun at stars during breakdowns should think about the lasting effect it has on their family members and loved ones. While Jamie Lynn is directly responding to the recent public meltdown of Kanye West after a bizarre string of political pushes, fans recognized that Jamie Lynn was coming from personal experience as she has dealt with the struggles of her pop star sister.
29-year-old Jamie Lynn took to social media Tuesday and echoed the sentiments of various celebrities speaking out and bringing awareness to mental illness in the midst of Kanye West’s uncomfortable public spat with his family. As we reported, Kanye went on Twitter and began accusing those close to him, including Kris Jenner and wife Kim Kardashian, of trying to have him involuntarily committed.
While many people are poking fun at Kanye for what is clearly a break from reality, celebrities like Halsey are speaking out in defense of the star and letting people know they should be more sympathetic.
Speaking from a place of personal experience, Jamie Lynn addressed fans about the struggles of watching someone deal with mental illness:
“If you deal with mental illness or care for someone dealing with mental illness, then you know how important it is to respect the situation with privacy for the person, and the family trying to protect their loved ones, no matter how it may appear to the public, and as the public we must learn to do the same,” the “Zoey 101” star wrote while showing a series of statements from celebrities speaking the same notion.
Throughout her childhood, Jamie Lynn has been a huge defender of Britney Spears during her own struggles and has gone to great lengths to protect her sister’s privacy.
Jamie Lynn added, “I pray this doesn’t bring shame to anyone dealing with mental illness, you are not alone, and you are loved.
Sending all my love and prayers to all of you.”
While she didn’t specifically mention her sister, Britney Spears, fans picked up on the emotion that Jamie Lynn was conveying and dropped some love in the comments of her post.
“I really hope you are all well, the Love we have for your family and Specially our Queen is big, really really big and since this all started to go very public I just decided to respect her privacy,” one fan wrote.
Jamie Lynn noticed the kind words from the fan and dropped a heart in response.
The drama surrounding Kanye has brought back into the spotlight questions surrounding mental health, celebrities and control, and is especially interesting as Britney’s conservatorship case prepares to be heard in court this week.
