In a new candid video for Vogue, Kaia Gerber discussed her struggle with mental health.

She and several other models got real on what it’s like working in the demanding industry.

Gerber, the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, is only 18 and has already been in the spotlight longer than most. Which she admits, at times, hasn’t been easy.

"There are so many moving parts, especially being part of an industry with so many different people that you face a lot of struggles," Gerber said in the video.

“You have to wake up every day and choose that happiness for yourself, not for someone else and not based on anyone else,” she continued.

Gerber started modeling when she was just 10, after landing a gig with Versace's junior line, Young Versace. She made her runway debut shortly after she turned 16 for Raf Simons's Calvin Klein Collection.

Since then, the teenager has walked for Marc Jacobs, Prada, Chanel, Moschino, and many others.

In 2018, Gerber collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld to create the KarlxKaia collection.

She Says Social Media Is A 'Highlight Reel'

Geber, who has over five million Instagram followers, has become a staple in the fashion and entertainment industry.

And while her social media is filled with envy-worthy pictures, she wants people to know it’s all just a “highlight reel.”

"What you see in the media most times is the highlight reel. It's okay not to be okay sometimes. It's okay to be sad. It's okay to have bad days," Gerber told Vogue. "Those aren't the days that we're putting on Instagram."

She Started A Virtual Book Club In Quarantine

During quarantine, the 18-year-old even started a virtual book club so she could stay connected to her fans and friends.

“I know we are all feeling isolated right now, so I was trying to think of easy ways we can stay connected (beyond just scrolling) and decided I’m gonna start a book club,” she wrote on Instagram in late March.

“I read a lot on my own, but would love to be able to talk to you guys about it... so every week I’m gonna post a book to my stories and the following week I’ll jump on live (sometimes with a friend, writer, guest, etc.) so we can all talk about the book that week! ♥.”

She's Discussed Mental Health In The Past

Gerber has opened up in the past about her mental health, and what she’s been doing to keep herself healthy during the coronavirus pandemic.

“In our minds, we keep going and going, and you don’t really have time to reflect on how your body is feeling and check back in,” she told Allure in April. “I’ve been very fortunate to use this time to check in with myself internally and that’s just been a really big part of my routine.”
