Tom Holland Is Ready To Dance His Way Into THIS New Role!

Tom Holland heads back to the big screen!

The English actor, 25, has recently been cast as the iconic dancer Fred Astaire in a new Sony biopic. That said, the “Spider-Man” star will portray a totally different character from his usual web-shooting role on Marvel.

Holland officially confirmed in an interview over the weekend that he’ll play the legendary actor, dancer, and singer, also known as the greatest dancer in film history.

Oscar-nominated producer Amy Pascal revealed in a recent profile for GQ that she specifically wanted Holland for the part of Astaire in the upcoming film, as well as another trilogy of "Spider-Man" movies.

While Sony hadn't made any public announcement yet, the "Uncharted" actor confirmed the rumors.

“Oh, I am playing Fred Astaire,” Holland told AP Entertainment while promoting "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in London on December 5.

He added, “The script came in a week ago; I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me. I know Amy Pascal has the script. She Facetimed me earlier when I was in the bath and we had a lovely Facetime. But I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

For those who didn't know, Holland began his career as an actor on the London stage, playing the title role in "Billy Elliot the Musical on the West End" from 2008 when he was only 12 years old until 2010.

Holland also showed his dancing skills in the past, when he performed on “Lip Sync Battle” in 2017. The actor sang and danced to a mashup of "Singin’ in the Rain" and Rihanna’s "Umbrella."

Furthermore, Holland took dancing classes when he was younger, citing Janet Jackson as his idol.

"I started dancing because of Janet Jackson," he told CNET in 2017.

He continued, "I don’t actually know which song it was. But when I was a baby one of her songs used to send me into a dancing frenzy. My mom thought I had natural rhythm, so she was like, 'You should go to a dance class.'"

He added, "I used to go every Saturday in the YMCA in Wimbledon, which was sort of just a kids’ dance class. It escalated from there."

Holland also took dance classes at the UK-based studio Nifty Feet.

When asked about who he wanted to dance with, he said, "Michael Jackson. One hundred percent."

The actor explained, "He invented his own style. And dancing is one of those things where you can take different styles and amalgamate them and create new things. He just invented a new style and, for me, that is so cool and badass. I love it."

According to Deadline, Astaire’s career was very successful, which lasted for 76 years before his death in 1987 from pneumonia. He worked with his siblings early in his career in vaudeville before going to Broadway and London’s West End. He starred in a 1933 musical titled "Dancing Lady" alongside Joan Crawford. He also appeared on 1948’s "Easter Parade" with Judy Garland and 1957’s "Funny Face" with Audrey Hepburn.
