Bob Dole passed away earlier today at the age of 98.

He had been suffering from stage 4 lung cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dole, and their daughter, Robin.

In a statement, she thanked her husband for serving the USA faithfully for 79 years.

Biden issued a statement mourning the loss of the World War II veteran.

He called Dole, “A war hero and among the greatest of the Greatest Generation.”

Dole joined the Army in World War II and was severely injured serving in Italy.

He became the Kansas state Senator in 1969 until he resigned in 1996.

In 1997, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his military and political service.
