Ariel Winter may have been part of the greatest TV family ever after her long-running role on “Modern Family,” but the actress’ real-life household was anything but perfect and gives her an interesting perspective as she brings public awareness to the travesty of Britney Spears’ conservatorship. Winter is the latest celebrity to join the ever-growing #FreeBritney movement as many are pushing for the 39-year-old pop star to be freed from the restricting chains of her conservatorship, which is controlled by Britney’s father and team of advisors.
Winter jumped into the Britney drama Wednesday evening as she reposted a social media article to her IG stories from someone laying out the details of how Britney Spears lost control of making decisions in her own life. Winter shared the post and dropped a heated caption directed at Britney’s conservators:
“What her ‘father’ and team is doing to her is absolutely disgusting and devastating…please read and share,” Winter urged her fans.
Ariel Winter sharing a scathing message with her 4.4 million fans definitely holds weight, especially since the star has a history of dealing with controlling parents and went on her own journey to reclaim her freedom.
Much like Britney Spears, Ariel Winter grew up a child star with a very watchful parent doing most of the guidance and navigation of her career. Unlike Britney, the “Modern Family” star’s controlling parent was her mother, Crystal Workman.
In 2012, Winter went public against her mother and claimed she had been overbearing, abusive and controlling to the point that she was deciding what the actress could eat during the day. Winter’s sister, Shanelle Workman, filed for guardianship of the actress and in 2014, at the age of 16 Winter was removed from parental guardianship of her mother.
The Disney and ABC star later explained that her childhood was taken away due to the rules her mother set down.
“There wasn’t a lot of connection with a lot of people because I wasn’t allowed to have them,” she explained in a 2017 interview.
Winter added, “I spent the first 14 years of my life in isolation and it wasn’t great.”
The control that was put on Winter’s childhood, although not court-ordered, appears to be very similar to the treatment Britney Spears currently receives in her own world of isolation.
With all the drama currently being focused on Britney Spears’ conservatorship, the star recently took to social media and made a statement about her heavily-criticized posts.
“I get how some people might not like my posts or even understand them, but this is Me being happy ….. this is Me being authentic and as real as it gets !!!!! I want to inspire people to do the same and just be themselves without pleasing others ….. that’s the key to happiness.”
However, many fans believe Britney’s social media accounts are not being managed by the star herself, and that her team is actually controlling the message being sent out through Instagram.
