Since Rivera went missing on Wednesday, in Lake Piru, Michele’s been criticized on the popular platform for not publicly addressing her former co-star’s disappearance.
Several people have also attacked the actress for her rocky relationship with Rivera.
While filming “Glee,” there were rumors Michele and Rivera had an ongoing feud, to which Rivera denied.
However in her 2016 memoir, “Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up,” Rivera admitted she had difficulty working with her co-star.
“We are both strong-willed and competitive – not just with each other but with everyone – and that’s not a good mixture,” Rivera wrote in her book about Michele.
She continued, “As Santana [Rivera’s character on the show] moved from a background character to one with bigger plot lines and more screen time. I think Rachel – erm, I mean Lea – didn’t like sharing the spotlight.”
“If I’d complained about anyone or anything, she’d assumed I was bitching about her. Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually, it got to the point where she didn’t say a word to me for all of season 6,” Rivera added.
However, it looks like their friendship was on the mend seeing as Rivera publicly congratulated Michele on her pregnancy in early May.
In the last few months, Michele has faced backlash after several co-stars reflected on the actress’s poor behavior on set.
Heather Morris, who played Rivera’s love interest on “Glee” addressed Michele’s behavior writing, “For Lea to treat others with the disrespect that she did for as long as she did, I believe she SHOULD be called out. And yet, it’s also on us because to allow it to go on for so long without speaking out is something else we’re learning along with the rest of society.”
Amidst the criticism, Michele (who’s pregnant with her first child) apologized for her behavior, while also saying she didn’t remember making certain comments.
“What matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people,” Michele wrote on Instagram. “One of the most important lessons of the last few weeks is that we need to take the time to listen and learn about other people’s perspectives and any role we have played or anything we can do to help address the injustices that they face.”
“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused. We all can grow and change and I have definitely used these past several months to reflect on my own shortcomings,” Michele continued.
Since her apology, more and more people have spoken out against her.
