Mental health shamers stepped back from blasting Britney Spears after seeing a new viral video. The TikTok clip calls out social media trolls for slamming the pop star and provides key information about her 12-year long conservatorship battle.
It’s caught the attention of several stars who have since joined the #FreeBritney fight.
Spears, 38, is said to have “the rights of a child under 10” – and many believe that “Britney Spears isn’t allowed to vote.”
(A Change.org petition hopes to get Britney the “right to her own lawyer” – it’s gained almost 60,000 of its 75,000 signature goal.)
While writers at Barstool Sports were excited “the #FREEBRITNEY movement finally reached the mainstream world this weekend,” they also said it was “embarrassing.”

What’s embarrassing, they said, is that “it took this long to happen.”
“Since 2008…2008!!!…Britney Spears has not been in control of her own life. She’s [sic] been living under a ‘conservatorship’ which is usually the sort of arrangement you make for people who are mental vegetables or disabled to a crippling degree.”
Their article was bluntly labeled, “Britney Spears Is Living In A Prison Where She Can’t Make Her Own Decisions.”
But they highlighted some potentially scary stuff.
A fan commented under Britney’s late-June Pride Month clip: “if you need help wear yellow in your next video.” …and guess what color she wore in her next video?
The caption of Britney’s yellow-clad clip awkwardly mentioned her “favorite yellow shirt”…but it was quietly changed later.
Good thing someone took a screenshot (which you’ll find here).
Even still, Britney Spears’ comments are filled with people asking if she’s “okay” – so a leading Britney Army account addressed the situation:
They wrote on Sunday: “Maybe instead of constantly asking if she’s ‘okay,’ maybe you should fight to #FreeBritney and give her freedom back.”
Other stars showed up too, like BET Award nominee Tinashe: “I worked with Britney Spears several times and she is an angel and a STAR. Respect her. #FreeBritney #endconservatorshipabuse”
Tinashe’s tweet has since been deleted.
But the aforementioned “Army” account also saw sentiments from R&B legend Missy Elliott on Sunday.
“??Prayers for peace of mind??,” she tweeted, later dropping a “???.”

TikTok creator @tythecrazyguy added an urgent follow-up message. Plainly put, he says, “Britney Spears needs our help.”
Britney’s conservatorship, he summarized, “denies her of any human rights, and her father and her team control all of her finances.”
It’s also being reported that Britney once asked her hotel concierge for flowers (whilst on tour)…but “they were out of her budget,” so the request was denied.
